Residents of Adentan and its surrounding communities celebrated the official opening of a brand-new, state-of-the-art Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) office complex in the municipality.
The strategically located facility would provide the full range of DVLA services, including driver licensing and vehicle registration.
In his address, the Minister of Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, expressed his profound delight at the realisation of the project. "Today marks a truly significant day for the people of Adentan. The opening of this modern DVLA office is a clear demonstration of the government's commitment to bringing essential services closer to the citizenry.”
Hon. Nikpe emphasised the broader implications of the new office, particularly its potential to enhance road safety within the constituency and beyond. "This facility is not merely about administrative convenience; it is fundamentally about promoting a culture of safety on our roads," he asserted. By making driver licensing and vehicle registration more accessible, we are empowering our drivers with the necessary documentation and encouraging compliance with traffic regulations. I am confident that this would contribute significantly to reducing the incidence of road accidents and protect lives and property."
He called on all residents of Adentan to take full advantage of the services offered at this new office and work in partnership with the DVLA to ensure that all vehicles operating within the municipality are properly registered and all drivers are duly licensed.
On his part, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DVLA, Mr. Julius Neequaye, revealed the agency's intention to establish six new offices abroad.
According to him, the initiative is designed to combat the problem of fake driver's licences being used by Ghanaians residing abroad, with Germany and Canada as pilot locations. The CEO further explained that under his leadership and in partnership with Foster Yeboah, the DVLA would be undertaking this expansion to address licensing challenges faced by Ghanaians overseas.
He mentioned that discussions had been held with various embassies, resulting in secured cooperation from Germany, the UK, the USA, Canada, Dubai, and South Africa, where the pilot programme would first be rolled out.
