A delegation from Air Ghana has met the Minister for Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, to discuss the company’s ongoing expansion plans and efforts to strengthen cargo transportation and air connectivity within Ghana and across the West African sub-region.
The delegation was led by the Chief Executive Officer of Air Ghana, Karim Traboulsi, who informed the Minister on the company’s latest strategic developments, particularly the acquisition of a dedicated Boeing 737-400 Freighter, expected to arrive in Ghana on 5th May 2026. According to him, the aircraft would improve cargo movement across the region, lower the cost of freight operations, and create new trade opportunities for businesses.
Mr. Traboulsi also explained that Air Ghana’s long-term vision was to position Ghana as the preferred cargo hub in West Africa by leveraging the country’s strategic location, growing infrastructure, and stable aviation environment. He noted that the introduction of the freighter aircraft marks an important milestone in the company’s journey to boost trade and logistics across the region.
“We want to bring connectivity to the region to help boost trade in and out of Ghana and turn Ghana into the main cargo hub for the West African sub-region,” he stated.
He further elaborated on the importance of reliable logistics systems for businesses, exporters, and farmers, noting that timely cargo delivery remains essential to economic growth and market expansion.
In his response, the Minister commended Air Ghana for the bold investment and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting private-sector initiatives that contribute to the growth of the transport sector and national economy. He stated that efficient cargo transportation remains a critical component of trade facilitation, industrial growth, and regional integration.
“Air connectivity is one of the areas that every country would want to improve upon. If the transport sector is functioning, an economy will do well,” the Minister noted.
Hon. Bukari Nikpe further reiterated that the Government remains focused on expanding aviation infrastructure across the country through the development of additional regional airports to improve access, create more economic opportunities, and enhance cargo and passenger movement nationwide.
“As a government, whatever that we have to do to support any group, organisation or institution in helping the country improve our connectivity, we are prepared to join hands and work together,” he assured.
Hon. Nikpe also mentioned that the Ministry was ready to collaborate with Air Ghana and other industry stakeholders to address operational challenges and build a more competitive, efficient, and reliable aviation industry that will serve the needs of businesses and the travelling public.
