The Minister for Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has commended the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) for its remarkable contribution to the development of Ghana’s aviation sector and its unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the country's airspace.

The Minister made these remarks at the dinner and awards night to climax activities marking the 40th anniversary celebrations of the GCAA. The anniversary celebration featured a series of activities aimed at reflecting on the achievements of the Authority over the past four decades while charting a path for the future growth of Ghana’s aviation industry.

Addressing guests at the event, Hon. Bukari Nikpe described the 40th anniversary milestone as a testament to the resilience, professionalism, and dedication of generations of aviation professionals who had contributed to the success of the GCAA since its establishment.

He noted that over the years, the Authority had consistently demonstrated excellence in aviation regulation, air navigation services and safety oversight, helping to maintain Ghana’s enviable record as one of the safest aviation destinations in Africa.

The Minister stated that these achievements not only enhanced the safety of air transport operations within Ghana but also strengthened the country’s position as a strategic aviation gateway in West Africa. According to him, the Authority’s commitment to international standards and best practices has earned Ghana recognition within the global aviation community.

He further attributed the progress made by the aviation sector to the support and vision of successive governments, particularly the commitment of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama towards strengthening Ghana’s transport infrastructure and enhancing connectivity for economic growth and national development.

The Minister paid glowing tribute to the former Directors-General of the Authority for their leadership and dedication in laying a solid foundation for the institution's growth. He also praised the current Director-General, Rev. Stephen Wilfred Arthur, for his leadership and efforts in advancing the Authority’s mandate in an increasingly dynamic global aviation environment.

He further praised the management and staff of the GCAA for their hard work, professionalism and commitment to duty, emphasising that their dedication has been instrumental in maintaining the safety, security and efficiency of Ghana’s airspace.

“As we celebrate this important milestone, we must remain committed to innovation, safety and excellence. The aviation industry continues to evolve rapidly, and it is important that we continue to invest in modern infrastructure, technology, and human capital to sustain the gains made over the years,” the Minister stated.

The Director-General of the GCAA, Rev. Stephen Wilfred Arthur, expressed appreciation to the government, industry stakeholders, development partners, and staff whose contributions have supported the growth and transformation of the Authority over the last four decades.

He reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of aviation safety and regulatory oversight while pursuing initiatives that will further position Ghana as a preferred aviation hub within the sub-region.

The dinner night also provided an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of past and present aviation professionals whose contributions have shaped the growth of Ghana’s aviation industry. Awards were given to some Directors and long-serving staff for their outstanding contributions and sacrifices to GCAA over the years.
