TASK FORCE INAUGURATED TO ESTABLISH A NATIONAL AIRLINE

The dream of a Ghanaian national airline took a significant step today with the official inauguration of a dedicated task force by the Minister of Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nipke.

 

The ceremony underscored the government's strong resolve to establish a flagship carrier that will boost the nation's economy and strengthen its position as a leading aviation hub in West Africa.

 

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Nipke emphasised the strategic imperative of a national airline for Ghana's progress. "A vibrant national carrier will not only enhance our connectivity within Africa and beyond but also serve as a powerful catalyst for economic growth, trade, and tourism," he stated. "Our Kotoka International Airport stands ready to be the home of a thriving national airline, projecting Ghana's image on the global stage."

 

The ten-member task force comprises seasoned experts and key stakeholders in the aviation industry. It is chaired by Mr. Charles Asare, former Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL). Other notable members include, Mr. Hugh Tamakloe, Mr. Benjamin Ahlijah, and Madam Patricia Bonsu, as well as the Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Rev. Stephen Arthur. The Managing Director of GACL Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, Former Deputy Minister of Transport and legal expert, Madam Joyce Bawa Mogtari, former Deputy Director-General (Technical) of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Mr. Daniel Acquah, and Mr. Eric Tetteh-Addison of the Ministry of Transport.

 

The newly formed task force has been charged with a comprehensive mandate, encompassing the development of a robust and sustainable business plan, meticulous coordination with potential strategic and technical partners, rigorous oversight of all necessary regulatory and certification processes, and the crucial groundwork for initial operationalisation, including recruitment, fleet acquisition strategies, and route network development.

 

Responding to the confidence placed in the team, Chairman of the Task Force Mr Charles Asare pledged their unwavering commitment. "We understand the national significance of this undertaking and are dedicated to working collaboratively and diligently to establish a national airline that will be a source of pride for all Ghanaians and a significant contributor to our nation's development," he assured.
