MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT HOLDS STAKEHOLDERS’ SENSITIZATION ON FISH LANDING SITE WITH THE PEOPLE OF ABANDZE

The Minister for Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah has admonished the people of Abandze in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region to eschew all political influences and support the Fish Landing Site that is going to be constructed for the Mfantseman community at Abandze.

He noted the Landing site was going to benefit all the indigenes and fisherfolks along the Mfantseman coastal area and therefore the need for all the people in the town to embrace the project and support it.

The Minister made these remarks when he engaged the people of Abandze with the technical team going to handle the Landing site. The site to be constructed by the China Habour Engineering Company with the Royal HaskoningDHV as consultants to the project.

The project when completed would have facility like, a Day Care Centre, a Toilet Facility, a Fish Market and a Fuel Station. The project is also expected to improve the environmental and sanitation conditions of the town and bring more job opportunities to the town.

The Minister in addition noted, the construction was by all means going to affect some properties along the stretch of the coast but those who would be affected should not be adamant in moving but should accept relocation for the progress of the project.

He admonished the people not to listen to people who may be going around to spell doom on the project. He said the project was to help members of the Mfantseman township and not the people of Abandze alone, therefore if they all embrace the project it would help in the fast tracking of it.

In addition, he mentioned that, the town should accept, live with and treat the Chinese who would be handling the project well for them to feel at home in constructing the Landing Site. He also advised the Chinese not to have any sexual relations with minors in the community but were free to make friends.

He mentioned the project would employ a lot of the youth in the town and because of that the youth should put themselves in readiness for the start of the project.

The Chiefs and people of the town present at the sensitization engagement, were appreciative to the Minister and government for their effort in going to construct the landing site at Abandze. They promised to corporate with the contractors when the project starts for it be finished on time. They added, they would not allow politics to divide them on issues concerning the project but, will be united to see the success of the project.

They admitted the feasibility studies has shown some of them would have to relocate and they were ready to corporate with the contractors when the time comes.

The leaders of the youth in the town expressed gratitude to the Minister but pleaded with him to insist when he the project starts for the local content bit not to be over looked by the contractors and the consultant. They also called on the Minister to warn the contractors not to disrespect, abuse and trample on the rights of the locals they would be working with.
