GOVERNMENT TO CONSTRUCT LANDING SITE AND FISHING HARBOUR AT MOREE

Work on the construction of a fishing harbor and a Landing Site will soon begin at Moree, near Cape Coast in the Central Region. The project, expected to be completed within 15 months, will improve the economic situation of people living in and around the area as it will create several job opportunities for the youth of the area.

The Transport Minister, Hon. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah was addressing the chiefs and People of Moree as part of his engagement with stakeholders of ten fishing communities selected for the construction of Landing Sites and Fishing Ports projects.

He indicated that government is committed to its job creation agenda and that the project would lead to poverty alleviation and improvement in the socio-economic well-being of the people especially the youth in the country.

The project is being funded with a 235,000,000 dollar loan facility from the China Development Bank (CDB).He therefore, tasked the assembly and the community to work closely to monitor every phase of the project since money has been released to the contractor, China Harbour Company for mobilization.

Member of Parliament for Abura Asebu Kwamankese (AAK), Hon. Morris Elvis Donkoh disclosed that the contractor and the assembly will ensure compensation is paid to persons whose properties would be affected when the project begins, adding that the youth in the community will be trained in the needed skills to enable them to manage the facility after completion.

The project comes with an administration block, net mending site, workshop, kindergarten, premix fuel station, ice-making factory, fish market and a place of convenience.

Other communities to benefit from the landing site and fishing harbor visited include Lower Axim, Dixcove, Manford, Senya Breku and Gomoa Fete.
