MINISTER INSPECTS KEY INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS AT KIA

30th May 2025 | PR UNIT

In line with ongoing efforts to enhance Ghana's aviation sector and its regional standing, the Minister for Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has paid a working visit to the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), with a key focus on ongoing infrastructure projects at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

This visit underscores the strategic move to strengthen Ghana’s position as a leading aviation hub in West Africa.

The Minister's tour included the construction site of GACL's new 11-storey head office, a substantial upgrade to the airport's infrastructure. This modern complex, slated for completion within the next two years, will house contemporary offices, versatile multipurpose areas, and sophisticated meeting facilities designed to streamline airport management and operations.

Expressing his approval of the current progress and quality standards, Hon. Nikpe urged contractors to maintain their focus on timely completion. He underscored the critical role of such infrastructure in propelling Ghana's aviation sector forward and strengthening its competitive edge within the sub-region.

A key aspect of the Minister's visit was the strategic re-purposing of Terminal 2 (T2) to accommodate both domestic and international flight operations. This initiative aims to alleviate the increasing pressure on Terminal 3 (T3) and significantly improve the overall passenger experience at KIA.

The contractor and GACL officials reported the successful completion of the first phase of the T2 repurpose, with the second phase anticipated to be finalized by the end of this year.

Hon. Nikpe concluded his visit with an engaging session with GACL staff, commending their dedication to providing excellent service and encouraging their continued commitment as Ghana progresses towards becoming the premier aviation gateway in the region
