The Minister in charge of Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nipke, has assured the leadership of the Railway Workers Union of the government’s commitment to resolving the ongoing issue of unpaid salary arrears affecting the Ghana Railway Company Limited (GRCL) workers.
During a meeting to discuss the way forward regarding unpaid salaries, union leaders expressed the immense financial constraint caused by the prolonged delays, severely impacting the well-being of workers and their families. The union emphasised that "this is not just a minor inconvenience but a major challenge that affects the workers' daily lives" and appealed for swift government intervention to ensure timely salary payments to restore trust and stability within the workforce.
In addition to addressing the salary arrears, the union also urged the government to prioritise the revamping of the railway sector, noting that the railway system was not only essential to the nation’s infrastructure but also the primary source of livelihood for many workers.
Hon. Nipke acknowledged the concerns raised by the union and assured them that the government was fully committed to resolving the salary issues as quickly as possible. He also reiterated the importance of modernising and investing in the sector to ensure its sustainability and to create better working conditions for all.
