AMBASSADOR TOM NORRING PAYS COURTESY CALL ON TRANSPORT MINISTER

17th Mar 2025 | PR UNIT

Danish  Ambassador Mr. Tom Norring has paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Transport, Hon. Josphe Nikpe, at the Ministry in a significant move aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.

The Ambassador highlighted the historical ties between the two nations, noting that their partnership dates back to the early introduction of DANIDA (Danish International Development Assistance), which has significantly contributed to various developmental projects over the years, particularly in the maritime sector.

Both parties underscored the importance of enhancing marine safety in shipping, which remained a critical area for ensuring the security and efficiency of maritime operations. They shared insights on best practices and potential collaborative efforts to improve safety standards across their fleets.

Additionally, capacity building emerged as a key theme. The ambassador and Hon. Nikpe acknowledged the need to strengthen the maritime industry's human resources and technical capabilities. They discussed initiatives aimed at developing skilled professionals and building local expertise to foster long-term growth and sustainability in the sector.

Another critical point of the conversation was the issue of piracy, which continues to threaten maritime security in some regions. They explored legislative measures to address piracy effectively, ensuring stronger enforcement of laws and increased international collaboration to combat the menace.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to advancing these strategic areas of cooperation, which are vital for the continued growth and stability of the maritime sector in both countries.
