MINISTER OF TRANSPORT PLEDGES TO IMPROVE DVLA OPERATIONS FOR GENUINE LICENSING

11th Feb 2025 | PR Unit

The Minister of Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nipke, has expressed his commitment to enhancing the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, (DVLA) operations to ensure genuine licensing of both drivers and vehicles.

He emphasized that ensuring road safety is a priority and to achieve this, all drivers must be genuinely licensed before taking the wheel. "Our goal is to make the roads safer, allow people to travel comfortably, and guarantee that all vehicles are properly registered," he stated.

Hon. Nikpe made these statements during a familiarisation visit to the head office of DVLA in Accra.

The Minister also emphasized the Ministry's intention to work closely with the Authority to tackle the challenges it encounters in delivering services to clients.

He specifically mentioned tackling the issue of middlemen, often referred to as "Goro boys," in the licensing process through the introduction of advanced technology to streamline the process and eliminate the role of intermediaries.

Furthermore, he urged the DVLA to adhere to the established 45-minute timeline for license renewals, ensuring that customers were not delayed or forced to rely on middlemen.

The Minister was accompanied by the Chief Director and other officials of the Ministry.
