A Market Sounding event for the Eastern Railway Line and Boankrah Inland Port Projects has been held in Accra today, Wednesday, 6th December,2017.
The objective of the projects is to provide an efficient and safer alternative to road transport network.
The event therefore seeks to engage potential local and foreign investors and also seek partnership for development in the transport sector.
The Minister for Transport,Hon. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah disclosed that the Boankra Inland Port project begun in the year 2002 by the Ghana Shippers Authority to facilitate port activities in middle and upper belts of the country.
He added that government believes in the Private sector hence government's decision to implement Public Private Partnership (PPP) strategies in the development of the inland ports.
He urged investors to partner government for the success of projects.
The Minister for Raiways Development, Hon.Joe Ghartey mentioned that the two projects will enhance Ghana's rail activity and establish Kumasi as a business enclave in accordance with government's policy of enhancing economic activities in the country.
He disclosed that the western railway development started in 1898 to facilitate the transportation of Cocoa and Gold and that Ghana became the best producer of Coacoa because Ghana had a boost in terms of logistics.
He states that the Eastern rail line project started in 1910 and that three major railines are in the Ashanti Region.
Present was the Minister for Finance and economic Development, Hon. Ken Ofori-Attah, Deputy Minister for Finance and Economic Planning, Hon. Kwaku Kwarteng and Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwaku Owusu-Aduomi.
