DEPUTY MINISTER PLEDGES FULL RESTORATION OF ISTC FOLLOWING CRITICAL BRIEFING IN ACCRA

3rd Oct 2025 | PR Unit

The Intercity State Transport Company Limited (ISTC) has received a firm commitment for radical transformation from the Deputy Minister of Transport, Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey, during a familiarisation tour to the company’s head office in Accra.

Following a critical briefing from the Managing Director of the company, Mr Al-Hassan Ligbi, on the carrier’s severe operational and logistical challenges, the Deputy Minister declared that the national carrier will be fully restored utilising the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy policy framework.

The STC Director’s briefing detailed the deep-seated issues crippling the company’s efficiency and expansion. Hon. Affo-Toffey, in turn, asserted that a turnaround is essential and non-negotiable for the nation’s economic progress.

“I am fully prepared to ensure ISTCis brought to its proper state," Hon. Affo-Toffey stated unequivocally. "We cannot run a successful 24-hour economy without a robust, efficient, national transport system like ISTC. The challenges presented will be immediately addressed with a mandate for full modernisation and round-the-clock optimisation.”

The Ministry’s plan will focus on major strategic interventions, including fleet renewal, infrastructure upgrades to support nighttime operations, and implementing technology to guarantee superior service delivery and enhanced security for all passengers. The goal is to establish ISTC as a highly dependable and continuously operating 24/7 entity.
