The Ghanaian Transport Minister, Hon. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, has been elected as Chair of the respected Maritime Organization of West and Central Africa (MOWAC). He is the first Ghanaian to have been elected to that position and expected to use his exceptional performance experience at the Ministry of Transport to stair the affairs of the organization during his term.
The historic event took place during the 8th Bureau of Ministers and 15th General Assembly of MOWAC held in Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of Congo
Following the election, the Transport Minister is expected to oversee the affairs of the 46th year old Organization which is made of twenty-five (25) countries.
It is anticipated that a new Secretary General will emerge at an extraordinary meeting expected to be convened by Hon. Ofori Asiamah within the next six months to man the day-to-day activities of the Organization, his leadership further moving the organization forward towards the achievement of its vision.
He is taking over from Khouraichi Thiam from the Republic of Senegal.
