GHANA MARKS WORLD CYCLING DAY

Ghana joined other countries of the world to comemorate this year's World Bike Day in accordance with United Nations General Assembly Resolution, on Thursday, 3rd June, 2021 at the 
forecourt of the Ministry of Transport. 

This day has been set aside to promote cycling  as an activity for the promotion of good health and a sustainable environment.

In her address, the Ag. Chief Director Mrs Mabel Sagoe indicated that the World Health Organisation (WHO) recognizes walking and cycling as a step towards achieving greater health equity and that, provision of safe, affordable, sustainable and accessible transport system  is an avenue towards the realization of  Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11 in  Ghana.

She disclosed that the Ministry is in  partnership with Bamboo  Bike Initiative in the "Bike Share Programme " in tertiary institutions. "The  programme seeks to  reduce air and  noise pollution on composes as well as offer an affordable and reliable means of transport", she explained.

The  head of the Bamboo Bike Initiative, Madam Bernice Dapaah urged all to include the culture of cycling in their daily activities as a means safe and affordable transport. 

Some staff of the Ministry, students and the general public took turns to display their skills in cycling to the amusement of all.
