Ghana’s Minister for Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has called for stronger collaboration between Ghana and Morocco to improve air connectivity, boost trade, and promote regional integration. This call was made during a bilateral meeting with Morocco’s Minister for Transport and Logistics, His Excellency Abdessamad Kayouh, held on the sidelines of the ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium 2026 in Marrakech.
The meeting focused on practical ways both countries can work together to strengthen their already cordial relations, especially in aviation and transport development. According to the Minister, the bond between the two countries continues to grow stronger through sustained diplomatic engagement and cooperation. He noted that Ghana and Morocco have shared a common vision for Africa’s development since the early days of independence, including their contributions to the formation of the Organisation of African Unity, now the African Union.
In the area of aviation, the Minister acknowledged the role of Royal Air Maroc for maintaining direct flights between Accra and Casablanca, describing it as a key link for business and tourism. However, he noted that the cost of air travel on the route remains a concern for many passengers who rely on affordable air travel.
“Ghana values its strong relationship with Morocco and is ready to deepen cooperation in transport and aviation for the benefit of our people in terms of trade, tourism and cultural exchanges. However, fares from Accra to Casablanca are relatively higher, compared to other regional and intercontinental routes.” Hon. Nikpe said.
He added that improving access to affordable flights would benefit the citizens of Ghana but also strengthen trade and tourism between Ghana and Morocco in line with Africa’s vision of open skies and integration.
“Affordable air connectivity and strategic partnerships will not only benefit our citizens but also strengthen trade, tourism, and regional integration across the African continent,” he added.
The Minister also proposed new areas of cooperation, including support for Ghana’s plans to revive a national airline and partnerships in aviation training, explaining that such initiatives would help build local expertise and strengthen the aviation industry in both countries.
He further highlighted the impact of Moroccan investments in Ghana across key sectors, citing the contributions of companies such as Addoha Group, OCP Group, and CIMAF Cement, whose operations have supported housing development, agriculture, and industrial growth while creating employment opportunities for Ghanaians.
Hon. Bukari Nikpe commended the Government of Morocco for successfully hosting the global symposium, describing it as an important platform for shaping the future of international aviation, development and collaboration.
He also expressed appreciation for the warm reception given to the Ghanaian delegation while conveying greetings from President John Dramani Mahama to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, highlighting the importance Ghana places on its relationship with Morocco.
The bilateral meeting concluded with both Ministers expressing confidence about the future of Ghana-Morocco relations and their commitment to deepening cooperation in aviation.
