The Minister for Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has officially inaugurated the new governing Board of the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AAIB), urging its members to leverage their valuable experience in support of the Bureau's critical mandate within the government's "resetting agenda".
Addressing the ceremony, he emphasised that the Board operates under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Transport and cautioned members against engaging with any other authority without proper consultation.
He further clarified the Board's role, reminding them that their appointment is to complement management's work and provide expert guidance on government policies. "You are appointed to bring your expertise in guiding them on government policies and not to assume the day-to-day running of AAIB, but rather to support and collaborate with management in ensuring that you perform your duties as prescribed by law," Hon. Nikpe explained.
The minister congratulated the appointees, underscoring the vital importance of good corporate governance in achieving transparency, accountability, and efficiency within public institutions.
In response, Mr Daniel Acquah, the newly inaugurated Board Chairman, pledged on behalf of the members to "serve God and country in this important capacity and help strengthen the effectiveness of the AAIB through strategic leadership and accountability."
The other members of the reconstituted Board are Mr John Mmeb Kunyan Wumborti, Mrs Justina Tete-Donkor, Mr Williams Ato Kwamina Orhin, Prof. Daniel Atuah Obeng, Ms Juliana Abagsonema Abane, and Mr Derrick Amaning Kwarteng.
This inauguration signifies a renewed commitment to enhancing aviation safety oversight and reaffirms the government's dedication to strengthening Ghana’s civil aviation systems.
