8th Apr 2025 | PR UNIT

Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, in an interview with Forbes Magazine, underscored the government's unwavering commitment to elevating Ghana's transportation infrastructure across all key sectors.

He emphasised a strategic vision to develop the rail, road, aviation, and marine industries to meet international standards. This commitment, according to the Minister, is integral to fostering economic growth, enhancing connectivity, and positioning Ghana as a leading hub in the region. The interview highlighted the government's determination to invest in and modernise these vital sectors to ensure efficiency, safety, and long-term sustainability.

Specifically, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe reiterated the government's strong resolve to revitalise Ghana's rail sector as a crucial alternative to the heavily utilised road network. He emphasised that both rail and sea (water) transport have significant untapped potential to alleviate traffic congestion and substantially boost overall productivity within the country.

To achieve this ambitious development, indicated the government's strategic approach of engaging in Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs). This collaborative model aims to attract vital private sector investment and expertise into both the rail and water transport industries, fostering innovation and efficiency.

Furthermore, the Minister outlined specific plans for leveraging Ghana's natural resources, stating the government's intention to develop the Volta Lake into a major transportation artery, opening up new possibilities for both passenger and freight movement. This initiative aligns with the broader vision of establishing multi-modal transit corridors across the nation. These corridors, as envisioned by the Ministry, will seamlessly integrate various modes of transport including rail, road, and water to ensure the efficient and effective flow of goods and services ultimately aligning Ghana's transportation infrastructure with international and subregional standards.
