This significant milestone marks a key step in the nation’s advancement towards a sustainable transportation system.

“For those of you who will be using these buses, you might be wondering how much it will cost. Based on our estimates, we expect a 40 to 50 percent reduction in fares for these electric vehicles”.

Dr. Bawumia further revealed that the "Tap and Go" initiative, already in place for public transport, would be expanded to the railway sector as well. “Your tap and go card will work on the railway, and as planned, it will also work on the electric buses, and eventually across the entire public transport system”.

The Minister for Transport, Hon. Kweku Ofori Asiamah disclosed the commitment of Ghana to reducing greenhouse gases under the Paris Agreement through its Nationally Determined Contributions, which include emissions from the transport sector.

He emphasized that "the introduction of electric buses brings us closer to achieving our targets outlined in the Paris Agreement."

Touching on the maintenance of the buses, the sector minister indicated that, government opted for their acquisition due to their low maintenance requirements thus, allowing Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) operate them efficiently without incurring significant upkeep.

The Managing Director of MMTL, Mr. Albert Adu Boahen highlighted the economic benefits of the electric buses. “These electric buses will not only reduce operating costs but also lower fuel expenses, benefiting the people of Ghana,” he affirmed.
