The President, Nana Akufo-Addo has touted the construction of the new Oil and Gas Services Terminal as a fulfillment of a vision that strengthens Ghana’s status as a leader in economic resilience.
According to him, the Terminal will serve as a crucial gateway for the seamless supply of essential resources for offshore activities, further strengthening Ghana's position within the oil and gas sector.
Speaking at the commissioning of the facility at the Port of Takoradi, President Akufo-Addo described the 31 Times Football Park Services Terminal as a "bold testament" to the nation’s economic progress, positioning Ghana as a key hub in the upstream oil and gas business.
“This vital investment in the sector reinforces our commitment to creating economic opportunities for all Ghanaians” he added.
The Minister for Transport, Hon. Kweku Ofori Asiamah, expressed appreciation to the President for his support in enabling the Ministry carry out numerous infrastructure projects.
He expressed optimism that the new Terminal, along with the existing facilities at the Port of Takoradi, would significantly boost maritime business in the region.
The Director General of Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, (GPHA), pointed out that the vision of transforming the Port from a traditional export point into a competitive international player has now been realized adding that, the Port of Takoradi is now capable of handling major cargo containers with enhanced capacity.
The Western Regional Minister Hon Kwabena Okyere Darko on his part, described the completion of the project as a major milestone in port operations and economic development.
He thanked the President for fostering an environment conducive to the growth of the oil and gas sector and emphasised the importance of ensuring safety, efficiency, and environmental sustainability as the Port continues to grow and transform lives.
The Terminal, which represents a significant advancement in operations at the Port of Takoradi, began in October 2022 under the auspices of GPHA, with funding from the government. The $100,007,246.86 project was executed by China Harbour Engineering Company, with GTYD Group Limited acting as the consultants.
The development involved the reclamation of 20 hectares of sea land, dredging of 752,045 m³, and extensive infrastructure work including storage yards, concrete roads, water supply, drainage systems, sewage, pipe networks, and power and communication ducts.
The new Terminal features a 550-meter quay wall and a draft depth of 10 meters, along with a 200,000 m² serviced land area designed for oilfield operators, logistics service providers, operational offices, workshops, and storage facilities.
The project aims to establish a world-class shore-based logistics platform at the Port, complete with offshore supply vessel (OSV) berthing facilities and serviced waterfront land to support offshore oil and gas exploration and production activities.
