A groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new Head office building for the Ghana Airports Company Limited, (GACL), and a new Air Traffic Control Tower, (ATC), for the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has taken place in Accra.
The nine-storey structure will comprise an underground and above-ground parking space, a cafeteria, a fitness center, a 250-seater auditorium, a daycare room, an infirmary, meeting rooms, among others is expected to be completed in 30 months while the air Traffic Control Tower will have a Visual Control (VCR); Approach Radar; Technical Equipment Rooms amongst others is to be executed within 24 months .
Addressing the gathering, the Minister of Transport Kweku Ofori Asiamah said “the groundbreaking will not just add to the aviation infrastructural stock but further enhance Ghana’s journey towards establishing itself as the premier aviation hub in the sub-region”
He described the Air Traffic Control as critical to ensuring safety at our airports, playing a pivotal role in securing and protecting the country's airspace.
The sector minister assured the gathering government commitment to investing in the aviation sector to meet future demands and improve service delivery.
The Managing Director of Ghana AirPort Company Limited, Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare said design of the new GACL Head Office Building has taken into consideration several visual and technical requirements to optimize and utilize the space in the best possible way and to make the building a landmark structure.
The Director General of GCAA, Ing. Charles Ebo Kraikue in his remarks noted that this project aimed to enhance air traffic management capabilities and set new benchmarks for aviation infrastructure across the continent, reflecting a commitment to adopting cutting-edge technology and adhering to global aviation standards.
