11th Feb 2023 | PR UNIT

A Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Transport, Hon. Fredrick Obeng Adom, has launched the Revised Ghana Highway Code and the Service Delivery Charter for the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) in Accra. The launch was aimed at significantly impacting road safety and enhancing customer service delivery in the country's transport sector.

Hon. Obeng Adom delivering the keynote address said that the Revised Highway Code, which was replacing an edition that had been in existence for nearly five decades, underwent months of extensive research, expert consultations, and feedback from various stakeholders. The updated version, he said, incorporated the latest technological advances and addressed the evolving transport landscape, promoting eco-friendly practices to protect the environment.

The new Highway Code, he added, goes beyond the traditional dos and don'ts, but aims to instill a culture of road safety and responsible driving. Key features of the code, he mentioned, included guidance on road signs, traffic signals, and road markings, as well as principles like defensive driving, respect for pedestrians, adherence to speed limits, and responsible vehicle maintenance.

He urged all road users to familiarize themselves with the guidelines and commit to following them diligently and assured them that the government was committed to providing the necessary resources for effective enforcement of the code.

The Deputy Minister further stated that the Service Delivery Charter that was being launched alongside the code, reflected the DVLA's commitment to delivering outstanding services to its customers.

“The charter outlines a commitment to efficient, courteous, and transparent service delivery, with mechanisms for feedback and redress”, he added.

He said the DVLA was already known for remarkable progress in service delivery and aims to further enhance customer satisfaction through the Service Delivery Charter. The charter aligns with the government's push towards a more accountable and citizen-centric approach.

Hon. Obeng Adom mentioned that the launch of the Revised Ghana Highway Code and the Service Delivery Charter represented a significant milestone in the nation's journey towards a safer and more efficient transport system and encouraged all to embrace the outlined principles with a plea for collective efforts to achieve and elevate road safety and customer service standards.

He called on the media to play an active role in the dissemination and awareness creation of these transformative endeavours to the driving public and also expressed gratitude to all stakeholders involved in the development of the documents
