Sod-Cutting Ceremony for the construction of the Benhard Schulte Office Complex at RMU

30th Jan 2018 | mot.gov.gh

Government, through the Ministry of Transport and the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) will soon launch the "Training of Seafarers for Export" Programme.

The initiative is in fulfilment of government's promise to create jobs and enhance the livelihoods of the citizenry.

The Minister for Transport, Hon. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah disclosed this at a Sod-Cutting ceremony for the construction of the Benhard Schulte(BS)Office Complex at the Regional Maritime University(RMU) Accra, today, Thursday 16th November, 2017.

He stated that many Seafarers trained in Ghana by the RMU had challenges seeking employment in other countries, a situation that contributes to the high levels of unemployment in the Country. "The Ministry of Transport has therefore developed a new policy directed at developing strategies with the view to addressing this problem", he stated.

The Transport Minister mentioned that the relationship between BS and RMU is one of the solutions to the challenges of providing on-board training and Sea-time for cadets of the RMU. He therefore commended the management of BS for the decision to construct its African Office on RMU Campus.

The Vice Chancellor of RMU, Prof. Elvis Nyarko, expressed the University's appreciation  for the support received from BS and appealed for support from other Development Partners.
