Minister of Transport Hon. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah has urged Heads of Agencies under the ministry to assess the extent to which they have carried out their respective mandates in order to position the transport sector in providing the necessary impetus needed for national development.
He was speaking at the 2019 Mid-Year Review Conference held in Takoradi, Western Region from July 29 to August 1, 2019. Under the theme ‘The Role of Transport in Boosting Trade, Economic Growth and National Development in the Era of the African Continental Free Trade Area.
The Mid-Year Review Conference is an annual event on the Ministry’s calendar organized to assess status of performance, achievements, challenges and the way forward for the rest of the activities and programmes of agencies under the Ministry.
Hon. Kweku Ofori Asiamah reminded board chairpersons, heads of agencies particularly those responsible for the execution of the “President’s Project” to focus on the completion of those projects in good time since next year is an election year. “I would like to urge you to put in measures to ensure financial reports are audited periodically”, he added.
The conference was attended by Heads and some managers of the various agencies under the Ministry namely, Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA), Volta Lake Transport Limited (VLTC), Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority ( GPHA) and Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMT). Others are the Government Technical Training Centre (GTTC), Inter-City State Transport Company (ISTC), Regional Maritime University (RMU) , Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA), PSC Tema Shipyard, National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).
